No. The mind doesn't stop. The practice is to notice that it's wandered, and to come back. The wandering isn't the failure. The returning is the practice.
No. Meditation has religious traditions. This isn't one of them. No belief system required.
It depends what you mean by "works." A few minutes can change the next hour. Months of practice can change a longer arc. We don't make claims about either.
No. A chair is fine. So is a couch. The body just needs to stop moving.
That's normal. The practice isn't doing it perfectly. The practice is starting again.
Twenty minutes. Twice a day. Morning and evening. If you miss one, start again.
